Mexico registered 584 new deaths from covid-19 in the last 24 hours to add 200,211 deaths since the start of the pandemic, its Ministry of Health reported this Thursday.
In addition, 5,787 new cases of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus were reported for a total of 2,214,542 infections.
With these figures, Mexico ranks thirteenth in the world in the number of infections and third in the number of deaths from the pandemic, behind the United States and Brazil, according to the US Johns Hopkins University.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, 5.98 million patients have been studied in Mexico, informed the general director of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Health, José Luis Alomía, at a press conference in Mexico City.
In addition, he pointed out that there are 1,752,125 people in the country who consider themselves recovered after having suffered the disease.
The estimated number of cases is 2,409,459 when considering those awaiting the test result. Among them, there are 34,959 estimated active cases , that is, 1% of all patients have presented symptoms in the last two weeks.
Alomía said that there is an average occupation of 20% of general beds in Mexican hospitals, and 24% in terms of intensive therapy beds with a respirator.
Regarding deaths, Mexico City, the focus of the pandemic, accumulates 19.3% of all deaths nationwide, that is, almost one in five deaths.
At the press conference, it was explained that 6,243,886 million doses of the vaccine against covid-19 have already been administered among the Mexican population , 95,538 of them in the last 24 hours, and that a total of 783,790 people have received the two doses necessary to complete the vaccination schedule.
The vaccination program currently includes adults over 60 years of age, medical personnel and educational personnel.
This Thursday, Mexico received the fifth batch of Coronavac vaccines, from the Chinese pharmaceutical company Sinovac Life Sciences, with one million doses.
With that figure, Mexico has received a total of 9,818,375 doses of packaged vaccines from the pharmaceutical companies Pfizer-BioNTech, AstraZeneca, Sinovac and the Russian vaccine Sputnik V.
In addition, in the country the Drugmex laboratory has packaged 940,470 doses of the CanSino Biologics vaccine, for a total of 10,758,845 sera.
With 126 million inhabitants, Mexico has committed 34.4 million doses of the American vaccine Pfizer, 79.4 from the Anglo-Swedish AstraZeneca, 35 from the Chinese CanSino, 24 from the Russian Sputnik V, 20 from the Chinese Sinovac, 12 the also Chinese Sinopharm and 51.4 of the Covax platform of the World Health Organization (WHO).
